DPS: Don't drive through high water
09:04 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 27, 2007
The Department of Public Safety is offering high-water advice as drivers in some Texas counties face flooding.
DPS advises drivers not to go through water that's running across a roadway.
Colonel Thomas Davis, Jr. says many cars will float in only 12 inches of water.
Davis says two feet of rushing water will carry off pickups, SUV's and most other vehicles.
The DPS director says six inches of water can be enough to stall a car or cause a loss of control over the vehicle.
DPS says more people die in flash flooding each year than in any other type of thunderstorm-related hazard.
