Housing complex designed to help people become homeowners
10:46 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 25, 2008
A local non-profit is helping low-income adults become homeowners.
Skyline Terrace is specially designed for people who make less than $25,000 a year.
Local nonprofit Foundation Communities -- who built the South Austin complex -- also offers programs that promote self-sufficiency.
"I think what's most exciting about Skyline Terrace that this type of supportive housing really works," said Walter Moreau, Skyline Terrace, executive director. "If we are going to make a difference in their lives and help some of those folks get off the street they need an entry level place to live. It's a very small place to live, but it's furnished, and the bills are paid, and there are services on site. So it gives people a second chance."
Skyline Terrace will provide 100 adults with permanent housing. Residents began moving in in April.
