Sprinklers credited with saving children from fire
03:12 PM CDT on Friday, June 8, 2007
Round Rock fire officials credit sprinklers with saving the lives of two children involved in a fire.
It happened Saturday, June 2, at the Colonial Grand at Round Rock Apartments on Plateau Vista Boulevard.
Authorities say a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old were playing with matches when they set fire to a closet. A sprinkler head went off and put out the fire, but it also activated fire alarms, notifying the fire department.
The children suffered minor burns, but EMS officials say they did not need hospitalization. Three other children escaped without harm.
Damages were estimated at $2,000.
