Texas officials are still talking about taxes.
Governor Rick Perry met with fellow state leaders this week in a
continuing effort toward a new school funding plan and property tax
relief.
The regular legislative session ended last week without a proposal to
overhaul school finance.
Perry has said he'll summon lawmakers back to Austin for a special
session if they can agree on a solution beforehand.
The governor today met with Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick.
Perry yesterday got together with Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
An aide to Perry says as a result of those two meetings, the pace has
quickened substantially.
A judge last year ruled the Texas school finance system is
unconstitutional.
The state has appealed to the Texas Supreme Court. Arguments will be
heard July 6.
