Behind the Brushy Creek Elementary School building is a field of portables. The entire 5h grade class is out here.

“I'm happy my kid is in the classroom room. I wouldn't be happy if my kid was in the portable - it doesn't give the feeling of being in school,” said Ram Agrawal, parent.

One mother of Pre-K twins didn't know about the portables until it was too late.

“When we came to enroll them, they were going to be in the main school, downstairs. And by the time school started, no, now they're off in a trailer,” said Monica Sanchez, mother.

A bond being considered will help relieve overcrowding here and several other Round Rock schools.

“What we really want is to have a bond that the public can support,” said Catherine Hanna, co-chair of the bond advisory committee.

Here's what's being considered:

-- $124 million for three new elementary schools

-- $114 million for additions to schools - including $18 million for auditoriums at Round Rock and Stony Point high schools.

-- $37 million in land for future schools

-- $30 million for technology..

There will also be money for renovations, upgrades and security for a total of $350 million.

But the financial advisory committee wants the bond price to be between $225 - $300 million, which means some projects will have to be cut.

“All the projects on the lists are important projects that we'd like to see the district do. But we do have to be prudent -- we are all taxpayers as well,” said Hanna.

“I think there has to be a line. I think there's probably more important issues than a fine arts program to have to deal with right now,” said Cathy Garcia, parent.

Parents will have one last chance for input at the May 19 public hearing. It will be at 7 p.m. in the Round Rock High School Lecture Hall. They’ll be asking some tough questions.

“How you put a price tag on education?” asked Sanchez.

The school board will likely decide what to put to voters sometime in June. The proposal will likely end up on the November ballot.
