Senate hearing more education testimony

01:45 PM CDT on Friday, May 14, 2004

Associated Press

The Texas Senate on Friday will hear more testimony on education proposals as lawmakers consider new school finance methods.

The Texas House has adjourned until Monday.

The 30-day special legislative session to overhaul the share-the-wealth school finance system runs through Wednesday.

Meanwhile:

-- Some Houston Democrats were angered today when GOP House Speaker Tom Craddick refused to allow a high school basketball team on the House floor to be recognized.

Representative Joe Moreno accused Craddick of depriving the kids because they were in a Democrat's district.

But Craddick denies it -- noting that several Republican lawmakers, including the speaker, had guests in the gallery who were not allowed to be recognized on the floor.

So the 5A state champion basketball team from Houston Milby watched the proceedings from the gallery.
