An intoxicated man attacked a student in his dorm room early Sunday morning, University of Texas police said.

The incident happened at Jester East dormitory on East 21st Street. Police say the man tried to enter the victim's dorm room twice and was told to leave both times, but the second time, he hit the victim. That's when the victim fought back, hitting the suspect and knocking him out.

The victim and his roommate carried the man to the lobby where a receptionist called police.

Investigators say the suspect had alcohol on his breath and a cut on his nose.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, and assault charges are pending. The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
