Solid Waste Services has launched an effort to encourage council candidates to recycle their campaign signs.
As part of Campaign Recycle '08, signs belonging to candidates who join the program will display a special recycling logo. Qualifying signs will be collected and then recycled by a local plastics recycling company, including the metal stakes.
The city will analyze how the program worked and see if it will work for future elections.
City of Austin council elections take place May 10.
