Law school helps vets with claims and benefits
02:21 PM CST on Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Central Texas veterans are getting help with a number of problems from a mobile law office.
Project Salute is sponsored by the University of Detroit's Mercy School of Law.
An RV was set up at the Travis County Veterans Service Office on I-35 Tuesday morning.
The program gets lawyers to volunteer their time so veterans can get their disability claims and federal benefits processed faster.
"It's a great thing that more people are getting involved in assisting veterans. Take care of veterans of all wars," said Tony Hill, a veteran.
Project Salute is beginning a nationwide tour --- organizers say on average veterans who have a lawyer get $6,200 more in benefits than vets who aren't represented.
