Austin police say the infamous "ponytail bandit" has been arrested.

Morgan Michelle Hoke, 21, was arrested by Royal Thai Police in Thailand, where she is awaiting deportation -- and officials said she could be extradited to the U.S. within 48 hours.

The 21-year-old woman from Houston is accused of robbing a Wachovia Bank in Northwest Austin last May. Police say she and her husband are serial bank robbers who hit that bank three times. Hoke has also been linked to bank robberies in California and Washington state. Her husband, 26-year-old Stuart Michael Romine, is suspected of robberies in Houston and Sugar Land, Texas. He is not in custody.

Police have determined that on January 18 the couple flew from Atlanta to South Korea to Thailand.

"We had prior information she was at a particular resort in Bangkok, again, it was just a matter or coordinating the arrest once we had everything in place is when it took effect," said Sgt. Art Arevalo.

Investigators said Hoke changed her appearance since the robberies by dying her hair and cutting it short.

"It's been a unique case. Her being a female bank robber is something we don't normally see. My FBI counterparts mentioned that yesterday -- but to take it a step further, when we have a husband and wife team committing such acts again that's very awkward. Then to flee to a third world country that's also unique," said Arevalo.
