One man is dead after an accident in Bastrop.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday near Hwy 71 and Hasler Blvd.

Police say 26-year-old Gerald C. Simpson of Cedar Creek failed to negotiate a turn under the underpass. Witnesses say his truck jumped the curb and rolled several times.

Simpson was taken to Lakeside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say Simpson was not wearing a seatbelt and it is not known if alcohol was involved. The accident is still under investigation
