Southwest adding three routes from ABIA

AUSTIN – Southwest Airlines said Monday it will begin nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to San Francisco, Sacramento and Indianapolis in 2018.

The Dallas-based carrier said the daily flights from Austin to the three cities will begin April 8, 2018. Flights to San Francisco (SFO) and Sacramento (SMF) International Airports will operate daily, while the Austin-Indianapolis (IND) route will be on Sundays.

“The new nonstop of Sacramento makes connecting capital to capital easier than ever,” said Jim Smith, executive director of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in a statement. “With this new daily service plus another option to San Francisco, Southwest now connects our Central Texas travelers to four airports in Northern California.”

The Austin-San Francisco flights will leave Austin at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in San Francisco at 5:25 p.m., with the return flight leaving SFO at 5:55 a.m. and arriving in Austin at 11:30 a.m. each day. The Austin-Sacramento flights will leave ABIA at 7:55 p.m. and arrive at SMF at 9:45 p.m., with return flights leaving at 6:30 a.m. and arriving in Austin at 11:50 a.m.

The Austin-Indianapolis flights will leave ABIA at 1 p.m. and arrive at IND at 4:20 p.m., with return flights leaving IND at 4:20 p.m. and arriving in Austin at 6:05 p.m.

Southwest already operates daily nonstop flights between Austin and San Jose (SJC) and Oakland (OAK) in the Bay Area. The new routes from Austin are part of 19 routes announced by Southwest on Monday, and brings the number of nonstop routes from ABIA on Southwest to more than 30.

Allegiant Air also operates a nonstop flight between Austin and Indianapolis.
