Some Austin pools still closed due to lifeguard shortage

AUSTIN -- While three more public pools are opening on Monday in Austin, about half of the city's pools are still closed due to a lifeguard shortage.

To open all 33 pools, the city still needs to recruit, hire and train about 300 lifeguards.

Thirteen of the city's pools are still closed. Twelve are closed due to the lifeguard shortage, and Montopolis Pool is closed for maintenance.

The following pools are open as of Monday:

  • Westenfield
  • Reed Pool
