Social media threats reported at 2 different schools

Extra police patrols at some Austin schools after threats were made online.

AUSTIN - Threats made on social media prompted two different local schools to send letters out to parents Monday.

One student is in custody in connection to a threat made toward Bailey Middle School on social media Sunday, Principal John Rocha said in a letter to parents. Rocha said the student was identified after Austin Independent School District police were notified of the social media post.

Meanwhile, parents of Vandegrift High School students received two different letters over the weekend and Monday regarding threats allegedly made toward the campus.

According to Charles Little, Vandegrift High School's principal, a social media post that circulated over the weekend showed a student "in possession of some weapons and other items." Little said that after a detective went to the student's home and investigated, it was determined that there is no credible threat to staff and students.

He said they received more reports about threats on social media Monday, but there is still no credible threat.
