Hundreds of gas station owners, retailers, and hotel managers are under investigation.
To date, the Texas attorney General's office received 684 complaints associated directly with Hurricane Harvey price gouging.
Investigators stress the importance of submitting a receipt along with a photograph.
“We are getting photographs of a high price, but a receipt proves that someone is really charging it,” said Jim Davis, Deputy Attorney General for Civil Litigation.
The days following Harvey, complaints mostly accused gas stations of gouging. They made up 45 percent of total complaints.

Davis says the crime is not restricted to Houston.
“East of Austin area, we see a one or two complaints in various locations. It really appears to be a statewide problem,” said Davis. “The largest scale of that problem is in the Houston area and that coastal areas that were most directly affected by Hurricane and the flood.”
