AUSTIN - Austin Police arrested a father they said left his 15-month-old daughter in a car for more than 30 minutes while he went for a job interview.
According to Austin Police, a worker in a building on the 5500 block of N. Lamar Blvd was told of a baby inside a car and when the worker approached the car saw the baby screaming and crying inside the parked car. The worker checked the doors to see if the doors were unlocked and they were and began tending to the toddler.
EMS worker took the toddler to the hospital and officers said within five minutes of arriving, the child’s father, Kory L. Hurd, 29, came to the scene. Police said Hurd told them he was interviewing inside and couldn’t find a sitter.
Police said Hurd told them he cracked the windows of the car and went inside, but said he couldn’t leave the air conditioning on because it was broken. According to the arrest affidavit, Hurd said he expected the interview to last 5-10 minutes, not 30 minutes.
Hurd faces a charge of endangering a child and was given a bail of $15,000.
