Police: Alcohol may have played factor in crash that sent 3 teens to hospital

SUNSET VALLEY, TEXAS - A multi-vehicle collision in south Travis County left three teenagers seriously injured Saturday.

Officers said they were called out the 5800 block of Brodie Lane for a three-vehicle crash just before midnight.

Police said they found a 2005 Chevrolet Impala badly damaged and with three people pinned in. a 1999 Lexus and a 2003 Toyota Avalon were also involved in the crash, with the driver of the Avalon pinned into his or her vehicle.

The Austin Fire Department was able to extract three passengers from both the Impala and Avalon.

Police said the 17-year-old driver of the Impala and his or her two 16-year-old passengers all suffered serious injuries and were transported to South Austin hospital. The rear passenger and front passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and are still in the hospital.

The driver of the Avalon was hurt in the accident but is expected to be okay.

The driver of the Lexus was checked out by paramedics at the scene of the crash but only suffered minor injuries.

Police said alcohol may have played a factor in the cause of the accident.

Currently, the accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Sunday night.
