Central East Austin murder victim identified

AUSTIN - Police are searching for the person or persons involved in a March 15 shooting that left one person dead in Central East Austin.

APD said they were called to the 6400 block of Springdale Road around 12:45 p.m. March 15 for a report of multiple shots fired, and located Ruler Stephon Bailey, 20. Backup was called to the scene as a large crowd had formed while officers worked to secure the scene. Bailey was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge by Austin-Travis County EMS, where he was pronounced deceased. Bailey's death was ruled a homicide by the Travis County Medical Examiner in a March 16 autopsy.

Homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads, police said. Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the APD Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
