Six weeks after Hurricane Harvey flooded more than 500 homes in La Grange there’s still an overwhelming amount of work to be done.
That’s why brand-new organization “La Grange Area Disaster Recovery Team” has formed as a 501(c)(3) to streamline recovery efforts in the flooded region.
“It’s our job to help everyone help themselves,” said La Grange Area Disaster Recovery Team President Joy Cameron. “I think every community needs to have this. We were unfortunate that we did not have this set up prior to a disaster happening.”
Now, they’re working with the City of La Grange and FEMA as well as the RV Horizon’s management to get people the paperwork and financial help they need to get back into their homes.
“People may be asking ‘how come they’ve gotten theirs and I haven’t gotten mine?’ So we just wanted to introduce them to our group,” said Cameron.
They are also organizing volunteers to help rebuild homes that were destroyed.
