AUSTIN - After a photo of a threat that was apparently scribbled on a bench at Bowie High School campus circulated on social media, school district officials have determined that the threat is not viable and that the school will operate as scheduled Thursday.
KVUE obtained a photo of the message that was apparently written on a bench that read, "On September 8th, I will shoot up the school." The person who submitted the photo wished to remain anonymous:
In a letter sent to parents Thursday, officials said the Austin Independent School District Police Department investigated the threat "and determined that the threat is not viable and that it is safe to operate school as scheduled."

Dear Bowie High School Community,
The safety and security of all Bowie High School students is our top priority. With that in mind, I am writing to let you know about a situation that has come to our attention.
Bowie High School leadership has become aware of an alleged threat made toward Bowie High School. The Austin ISD Police Department investigated the threat, and determined that the threat is not viable and that it is safe to operate school as scheduled.
Threats of any kind against our school, students and staff will be investigated immediately and are not tolerated. I am thankful to our community for monitoring social media and reporting threatening behavior of any kind.
