Police identify motorcyclist killed after fall from upper deck of Research Blvd.

AUSTIN - A collision Tuesday, Dec. 12 resulted in a man falling 20 to 25 feet from the upper deck of Research Blvd, causing his death, Austin-Travis County EMS said.

Austin police identified the deceased Tuesday, Dec. 19, as Robert Trewitt, 62.

According to a preliminary investigation, at 2:13 p.m., a Chevrolet truck was traveling southbound in the inside lane of the 8400 block of Research Boulevard, near Ohlen Road and Lamar Boulevard, when it swerved into the right lane to avoid a crash. When the Chevrolet entered the right lane, it struck the  motorcycle from behind, knocking Trewitt off his bike and over a retaining wall, police said,

Trewitt sustained serious injuries and was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries, ATCEMS said. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 4:50 a.m. 

The case is being investigated by the Austin Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Unit. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call 512-974-8544.
