More evacuees heading home in wake of Harvey

AUSTIN - The Travis County Emergency Operations Center announced Wednesday that dozens of guests at Austin's MetCenter shelter have started to head to destinations closer to their homes.

The EOC said that about 27 evacuees boarded a bus around noon headed for Victoria, Texas, where they are expected to be met by Victoria County officials for assistance.

As of Tuesday night, the EOC said around 250 guests and 19 pets still remained at the MetCenter shelter.

The EOC also announced that the medical shelter at the University of Texas J.J. Pickle Research Campus is closed and all patients have been transported to San Antonio. All animals at the Travis County Expo Center have been relocated as well, the EOC said.

Public updates on the shelter are available by calling 311 or 512-974-2000.
