FAYETTE COUNTY, TEXAS - The Fayette County Sheriff's office was able to locate a missing elderly man with mental health issues Thursday morning with the help of a canine named Lobos.
According to deputies, a woman called authorities just before 11 a.m. because her dementia-ridden father had walked away from his home in the Vista Ranch area.
Deputies said the family spent an hour searching for him on the premises but could not find him.
The Sheriff's Office along with EMS and the La Grange Fire Department responded to the scene.
Lobos, the dog that is typically known for sniffing out narcotics, found the man lying behind an abandoned 18-wheeler trailer parked 300 yards from the home, according to investigators.
Deputies said the man appeared to be suffering from heat-related symptoms. He was taken to Smithville hospital for treatment.
