Meals On Wheels Central Texas asking Congress to #SaveLunch

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is asking to the public to urge Congress to #SaveLunch

Meals on Wheels of Central Texas is making a statement, asking the public to urge Congress to  #savelunch.

Volunteers said that as the demand for their service rises, federal funding has remained flat for several years.

Friday, they placed 3,000 lunch trays outside the home of a veteran family that benefits from their services.

The number of trays represents the number of people they feed every day. That number is expected to grow as Baby Boomers age, which is why the organization is asking people to help.

"We're asking all Central Texans to contact their lawmakers who represent them on Capitol Hill and urge them not only to safeguard Meals On Wheels funding but to increase it," said President and CEO of Meals on Wheels of Central Texas Adam Houser.

Congress has until Sept. 30 to determine funding levels for the new fiscal year.
