AUSTIN -- President Barack Obama arrives in Austin on Friday, the first day of South by Southwest, which will create some major traffic tie-ups.
This is the main reason Mayor Steve Adler is asking employers to let employees stay home and work that day.
"Traffic is going to be a zoo around here. If you've ever been near a presidential motorcade you know that traffic is stopped and its stopped everywhere," Adler said.
Obama is expected to speak at The Long Center at 2:00 p.m. The president's motorcade will wind through downtown streets, which will be closed to regular traffic.
Adler says the best advice if you have to come downtown for work or leisure is to leave by noon.
"We don't know the exact route the President's motorcade will take however 35, 71, and now Mopac will be involved in his route," Adler said.
In addition to Obama, 250,000 people are expected to attend South by Southwest.
