Man accused of robbery, arson threats at Austin hotel

AUSTIN - A man has been arrested for multiple crimes at a Rodeway Inn on Sunday, police said.

The suspect, identified as Lawrence William Moore, 48, allegedly pulled a gun on a motel clerk and robbed him, threatened to burn down the hotel, and allegedly pulled a gun on a victim in the parking lot in order to get her car keys.

According to an arrest affidavit, the motel clerk was called to the door around 5:30 a.m. to Moore asking for a room. When the clerk went behind his desk, Moore followed him, brandishing a semi-automatic handgun, police said. Moore allegedly then asked where the money was, and then for the "tape." After grabbing the money, he followed the clerk upstairs to the computer room where he allegedly tried to figure out how to "destroy everything," police said. Court documents state that Moore then said he was going to get some gasoline and "just burn the place down."

The clerk was able to call APD while Moore allegedly began knocking on guests' doors and asking for help with a computer while holding a gun, witnesses told police.

Moore then allegedly approached a female in her car in the parking lot. She told police he attempted to take her keys and get in by using his gun to break the glass, but was unsuccessful.

Police also believe Moore to be the suspect in a robbery that took place at a Bullfight restaurant around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, and a burglary of a residence around 8:57 a.m. on the same day.

Moore has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He is currently in Travis County Jail, and his total bond is $300,000.
