Man accused of choking coworker with dental floss

AUSTIN - A man allegedly used dental floss to choke a woman while they were both working at a West Lake apartment complex, according to an arrest affidavit.

Edlund Ellis, 30, faces a charge of assault by strangulation - a third-degree felony.

Police said Ellis was reportedly captured on surveillance video at the West Lake Vistas apartments located in the 7201 block of North Ranch Road 2222.

Ellis and the victim were both working at the Leasing Office at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1., the affidavit said. In a video, police said they saw Ellis pick up dental floss from another coworker's desk and walk towards the victim.

Police said, without any warning, Ellis pulled the floss "tightly" across the victim's neck. According to the affidavit,  the victim "could have easily been killed."

The victim told police that while in the act, she asked Ellis what he was doing. He responded, "choking you," the affidavit said.

Police said a picture taken 30 minutes after the incident showed the victim with a 6-inch long, raised welt across her neck.

While the victim said she was still able to breathe during the incident, she said that the floss caused her pain, rating it at a seven on a scale from 1 to 10.

Ellis has not been arrested yet, but police have set his bond at $30,000.
