Man accused of attempted sex assault of unconscious woman

AUSTIN - Austin Police are looking for a man who was allegedly found partially nude with an unconscious woman in a men’s bathroom at the Westin hotel.

According to the arrest warrant, a security officer was making his rounds through the hotel and heard noises on the 20th floor where the workout room and pool are located. After failing to find anyone in the pool or workout area, the security guard opened the men’s bathroom door near the workout center and the door hit the head of a woman on the ground.

The security guard told police that he found the woman completely unconscious on her back and found a man, identified as Andrew Raines, 33, on his knees between the woman’s legs with his pants down and the woman nude from the waist down.

According to police, the security guard allegedly told Raines to leave and that Rainse allegedly tried to put the woman’s clothes back on. The security guard contacted an off-duty officer working security at the hotel who returned to the area with the security guard.

Police said when the two got to the 20th floor, Raines allegedly got on the elevator and never made eye contact with the security guard or the off-duty officer and stood with his back against the elevator door.

According to the arrest warrant, Raines allegedly told the officer he didn’t know the woman on the bathroom floor while still not making eye contact while in the elevator. After the officer tended to the woman and EMS took her to a local hospital, police said Raines said initially he didn’t know her but changed his story to say they had been together that night before saying he shouldn’t answer any more questions.

The woman told police she had no memory of the night but that she had never consented to any sexual activity. Raines is being sought on a third degree felony charge of attempted sexual assault.
