AUSTIN - Some Austin area malls will close Thanksgiving Day but will leave some of the stores the option of opening.
This comes just one week after one of the biggest malls in the country, Mall of America, made this same announcement.
So will it get you to shop more? KVUE asked shoppers at the Arboretum in North Austin what they thought.
"I think it's great," shopper Danielle Robinson said. "I think all of our shopping can be done before Thanksgiving. I know that there's that last minute thing that we forgot, but I mean, honestly, I think that people need to be home with their families on that holiday."
"I'm a strong believer in letting the employees at the big box stores have that day off for Thanksgiving and support the stores that close," shopper Karl Weston said.
"I think we need to go back to the basics and let people spend quality time with their family and enjoy the day," shopper Jeanette Karver said.
"I think it's a good gesture and it makes me want to shop at those places more often," shopper Anthony Florez said. "They treat their employees right."
The Domain and The Domain Northside will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, however, select stores will be open.
Round Rock Premium Outlets will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and close at 10 p.m. on Black Friday. Barton Creek Square will open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, close at 1 a.m. then reopen at 6 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
A representative said that they do not require retailers to remain open but the majority choose to do so.
