Leander police investigating first city bank robbery

LEANDER, TEXAS - UPDATE: The suspect in this robbery has been apprehended, LPD said. GO HERE for details.

The Leander Police Department is investigating their first bank robbery in recorded history.

According to police, they were alerted to suspicious activity at Compass Bank in the 200 block of North U.S. Highway 183 after the bank issued a silent alarm at  11:20 a.m. Monday.

Police said they were told a white or Hispanic man walked into the bank and demanded money from the teller. Police said the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in an early 2000s model tan or gold Mercury Marquis with a vinyl top the same color as the car.

The suspect is described as 5 foot tall and 135 pounds. He was seen wearing a black jacket with tan or khaki pants, a yellow reflective safety vest, and a camouflage baseball cap.
