'Most wanted' sex offender captured in Del Valle

AUSTIN - An Austin-area man has been captured in Del Valle only a few days after being added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list.

Police say Kevin Travis Waddell was detained about 8:30 a.m. Thursday while they were observing the 2600 block of Whirlaway Drive, which is just east of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, after receiving tips from the Department of Public Safety he could be in the area.

According to a press release issued by the DPS, Kevin Travis Waddell hadbeen wanted since September 2015 due to parole violation, failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and possession of a controlled substance.

Waddell, 54, has ties to the Austin area with his last known address being located in Lakeway.

According to the DPS, Waddell’s criminal history also includes a sexual assault conviction, in which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.
