The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas held the second annual KVUE Cares event to boost its blood supply and platelets on Friday.
Organizers said the need is great during holiday weekends when accidents tend to spike upward.
With Labor Day weekend coming up, those whose lives were saved spoke to KVUE about the difference even a pint of blood can make.
Kevin Karschnik said he received a life-saving blood transfusion due to complications after getting a kidney transplant from his brother.
"I wouldn't be the dad that I am, the husband that I am, the person that I am, if it wasn't for all those folks,” he said.
Donors who gave blood received KVUE Cares T-shirts, pizza and popcorn along with a $10 coupon for blood supplies. To learn more about how you can help, go here.
