TRAVIS COUNTY - Tuesday, a judge granted the district attorney's request to put a hold on State Rep. Dawnna Dukes' felony charges.
Earlier this month, District Attorney Margaret Moore announced her office was holding off on the felony charges for now, because the office needed more time to investigate if Dukes falsified travel vouchers for financial gain. Dukes' lawyers said Moore's motion to hold off on her felony trial date should be denied. The trial was initially set for Oct. 16.
After the judge's decision Tuesday, the trial could happen Dec. 11 if prosecutors do not decide to drop felony charges against Dukes. If prosecutors drop the felonies, Dukes' misdemeanor trial will happen on that day.
Those misdemeanor charges allege Dukes used her staff for personal use.
