Influx of tips could accelerate hearing date for Greg Kelley

Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick says a hearing in which Greg Kelley is seeking to have his conviction overturned may happen sooner than expected.

The reason: Tips that could be helpful to Kelley's case.

"The tips we are getting make it even more compelling to try to do it more quickly. Both sides are talking about ways that we could move the hearing sooner," Dick said.

The hearing is now set for the first week of August.

It was originally set then because of another major trial the judge is handling in July.

Dick said officials are now looking at any other opportunities for the hearing but that it will depend on the judge's availability and other matters such as the availability of witnesses in the case.

A jury convicted Kelley of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old at an in-home daycare in Cedar Park. Prosecutors now say they are investigating an alternative suspect, Johnathan McCarty, who lived in the house and was Kelley's best friend at the time.
