Hutto City Council votes to end red light camera contract

HUTTO, TEXAS - The Hutto City Council on Monday voted to terminate its red-light camera contract.

The city said the council voted unanimously to end its contract with American Traffic Solutions effective Nov. 15. Hutto has red-light cameras at two intersections: Exchange Boulevard at U.S. 79, and U.S. 79 at FM 1660 South.

According to Hutto Police Lt. Dwain Jones, nearly 4,200 violations have been captured on the cameras in 2016. Jones added several hours of staff time have been dedicated to reviewing camera footage and processing tickets.

Hutto is in the process of finalizing its 2016-17 budget. The second reading of the budget is scheduled for the council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 15.
