Hundreds show support for their loved ones at 'Run with the Heroes' 5K

People headed out to Camp Mabry early Sunday morning to participate in the Run with the Heroes 5K.

Austin Police Department and Special Olympics of Texas hosted the event to honor fallen heroes.

Sunday’s race was in honor of fallen Officer Amir Abdul-Khaliq.

“Their strength is what motivates me every day, whether that be the strength of my loved ones or the strength of ones that I don't know,” said Marissa Russo, a participant. “It gets me up and gets me moving and really pushes me to push farther because they're doing it every day.”

Austin Police Department said more than 700 people showed up.
