Hundreds line up for Obama speech tickets

AUSTIN -- Hundreds of people lined up at the Paramount Theatre on Tuesday morning as Austinites awaited tickets to see President Barack Obama speak on Thursday.

The speech is free and open to the public, but tickets were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Obama will speak about the economy at the Paramount around noon on Thursday. The president's appearance has canceled all films originally scheduled for Wednesday at the Paramount. The Paramount says all films scheduled for Thursday evening will screen as originally planned.

Obama is traveling to Austin for two fundraising events.

Gov. Rick Perry is asking for a private meeting with Obama to discuss the ongoing crisis of tens of thousands of Central American children being smuggled into the country illegally. There is no word yet on whether Obama will visit the border during his trip to Texas.
