HomeAway expansion in North Austin could bring 2K jobs

HomeAway North Austin expansion could mean 2,000 more jobs

AUSTIN - Many consider the Domain to be North Austin's version of Downtown. And with a big announcement that came Friday, the area is likely to see even more growth soon.

HomeAway, an Austin-based company in the vacation rental sector, announced the signing of a lease for a 16-story office tower that will come to fruition by 2019. This expansion may bring as many as 2,000 new jobs to fill the 315,000 square feet location.

The vacation rental sector is one of the country's fastest growing businesses, and HomeAway's president sees this growth as something that fits in Austin.

"They want that vacation feel, even in a city," HomeAway President John Kim said. "We're starting to look at a global triangle and see what people want. They want more space, they want that kitchen, they want that living room, they want 2,000 square feet. That sure as hell beats hotel rooms with 200 square feet."

Kim also talked about his company's desire to be on the forefront of technological advancements in connecting with users. He said Austin's tech-savvy nature should help open up plenty of jobs that people will be looking for.

The new office is set to be built at the intersection of Domain Drive and Alterra Parkway.
