Georgetown bat tests positive for rabies

A downed bat found in Georgetown on Thursday has tested positive for rabies, according to city officials.

The bat was found on a residential property in the 2100 block of N. Austin Avenue. Officials are not sure if any people or pets were in contact with the bat, but they are notifying those in the area just to be safe. 

Anyone who finds a downed bat or believes their pet has come in contact with one in Georgetown should contact the non-emergency line for the Georgetown Police Department at 512-930-3510.

Protect your pets from rabies by keeping their vaccinations up-to-date. The Georgetown Animal Shelter is hosting a low-cost vaccine clinic on Saturday, May 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.
