AUSTIN - An Austin ISD spokesperson confirmed that five students from the same elementary school campus have been diagnosed with the flu.
Due to health and privacy laws, AISD said they could not disclose which campus.
To combat flu outbreaks among students, AISD said it will be providing free flu shots for all elementary and middle school students with parental consent from Oct. 10 through 23.
In February of this year, doctors in the Austin area reported an uptick in flu cases among children, and Dell Children's said they saw near-record levels of kids with flu-like symptoms at more than 300 patients a day.
