AUSTIN - The house fire that caused serious burn injuries to a man in South Austin and eventually caused his death has been ruled as a case of arson, according to the Travis County Fire Marshal's Office.
Just after 3 p.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a single-family two story home on Slaughter Creek Road in unincorporated Travis County. When fire officials arrived on the scene, they said flames could be seen coming from the rear and front room.
In a release Wednesday, the Fire Marshal's Office said the initial investigation suggests the victim, a man in his 60s, set the fire himself intentionally.
He died Tuesday at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
The investigating is ongoing, and the Fire Marshal's Office will not release the name of the victim pending notification of next-of-kin.
