Fighting Irish fans hold pep rally before big game

Notre Dame fans prepare for big game

AUSTIN - The Notre Dame Club of Austin hosted a fan fest and pep rally Saturday at the Mexican American Cultural Center to celebrate the big game day this weekend.

Hundreds lined up for live music, game gear and photo opportunities with the famous Fighting Irish mascot.

“You have two different schools that compete at the highest levels in both academics and athletics, so when you put these two together, it’s not just a bunch of guys in shoulder pads colliding. It's really great traditions and two great institutions coming together to create something that you're not going to see anywhere else this weekend,” Notre Dame Club Communications Director Andrew Barlow said.

Angela McCormick flew in from Chicago to show her support for the Indiana team, she was a former member of the Notre Dame band.

"This is the first time picking up a piccolo since I graduated so it’s been a long time!” McCormick said, “It's all muscle memory."

Each member ready and pumped to cheer on their favorite team, along with the rest of the tens of thousands of other fans, like Mark Madrid.

He's a '95 University of Texas grad and just finished up his masters at Notre Dame.

"I'm just blessed, blessed to be from both schools!"

But not everyone shares the same love, Stefan Molina says this Sunday his fellow Irish will take the lead.

"I've got so many bets going on I can't even keep up with them!” Molina said.

Still, fans agree the game will be intense.

"I think it's who steps up to the plate and says, ‘you know what, I'm here to win it,’” Madrid said.
