ELGIN, Texas – Police are reminding motorists to be aware after a near miss that was caught on camera along U.S. 290 earlier this month.

Elgin police posted on Facebook video of a minivan running a red light at U.S. 290 and County Line Road around 7 p.m. June 15. Police said the light had been red for 24 seconds before the minivan entered the intersection, narrowly missing a pickup truck.

“You should recall from Driver's Education the yellow signal indicates you should begin slowing and prepare to stop, not speed up,” the post stated.

Police ended their post by reminding everyone “be cautious when entering intersections and look twice before proceeding through a green light, you never know when drivers such as this one will come barreling into your life.”
