A portion of the UMC Brackenridge emergency room dock was closed after a driver crashed a stolen car into a retaining wall Thursday evening.
The Austin Police Department said the car was stolen around 5:35 p.m. and hit several things, including a couple of parked cars, before crashing into the retaining wall at a high rate of speed. One of the parked cars was on MLK.
The car caught on fire and hospital employees used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, the Austin Fire Department said.
The driver was the only person in the vehicle and is being treated at UMC Brackenridge for injuries from the crash. There were no other injuries.
Part of the emergency room dock is closed while engineers evaluate the damage.
