AUSTIN - Blue Starlite, Austin's favorite drive-in movie theater, is opening a location in South Austin in April.
Back in December, the theater announced that it was packing up and leaving Austin for Buda. It was set to leave the Austin Studios complex along East 51st Street and open in February of 2017 at 1510 Satterwhite Road.
Then, late Wednesday night, Blue Starlite revealed that it found its new home in South Austin at 12419 Lowden Lane at the end of Manchaca Road. A soft opening on March 11 will kick off the drive-in's season with a grand opening scheduled for April 7.
And along with the new location, the drive-in is also introducing real bathrooms, an expanded concession stand, a bigger screen and "a souped up digital projection system." That's all thanks to a Kickstarter campaign Blue Starlite started.
