Destructive fire starts in trash, leads to S.W. Austin home

Fire starts in trash, leads to southwest Austin home

AUSTIN - When fire crews arrived while responding to reports of a trash fire early Thursday morning in southwest Austin, they found the second-story of a home fully engulfed in flames, according to the Austin Fire Department.

Located at 202 Lacey Avenue, the house that caught on fire appeared to be under construction, according to KVUE's Cori Coffin.

Crews haven't put out all of the hot spots yet. They are waiting until they have daylight to get into the building that is not structurally sound currently.

AFD did say the house is a total loss with damage estimated at $1.2 million.

AFD has Lacey Avenue closed off near Stratford Drive in the Rollingwood neighborhood due to the fire.
