Authorities have identified the man killed in a construction site accident Saturday west of Georgetown.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the site along West SH 29 around 5 p.m. Sept. 2. The man, identified Sunday as Jose de Jesus Diaz-Venezuela, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene by Williamson County EMS.
Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody told the Austin American-Statesman that Diaz-Venezuela was struck by a grader being driven by another worker, and that he was likely crouching down when he was hit. The crew was installing gas lines at the time of the accident, and Chody said PUMPCO, Inc. was installing the lines.
Al Addison, senior safety coordinator for the Giddings-based company, described the incident to the Statesman as “unfortunate accident, very much just a weird occurrence.” He added the company intends to fully cooperate with the investigation.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct an investigation into Diaz-Venezuela's death, and Chody said that investigation will examine whether workplace safety or negligence was a factor.
