D.A. holding off on taking Dawnna Dukes to trial on felony charges

TRAVIS COUNTY - District Attorney Margaret Moore said she will hold off -- at least for now -- on taking State Rep. Dawnna Dukes to trial on felony charges.

Those charges, which were set for trial next month, relate to whether Dukes falsified travel vouchers for financial gain.

The D.A. said her office recently obtained new information about the vouchers and that they need to investigate more. For now, Moore said prosecutors will take Dukes to trial in October on a misdemeanor charge relating to allegations that she used her staff for personal use. A separate misdemeanor charge will be taken up on a later date.
