Man dies from injuries in SW Austin crash

AUSTIN -- One person died from his injuries in an Oct. 13 crash near MoPac and U.S. 290 in Southwest Austin, police said Wednesday.

Austin police identified the man who died as Michael Sullivan, 69. Their preliminary investigation shows Sullivan was in a Ford 500SL that was stopped in traffic when a Ford Expedition struck his vehicle from behind. The crash caused a chain reaction that involved a 2012 Honda Accord and a 2012 Toyota Highlander.

Sullivan was taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on Oct. 15. Austin-Travis County EMS reported after the crash that a woman in her 60s was also taken to the hospital and was expected to recover.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-4424. This was Austin's 56th fatal crash and 57th fatality of 2016.
