Firewalkers Competition honors 9/11 victims

PFLUGERVILLE - A special competition was held today in honor of all the firefighters who saved and rescued lives on September 11.

The purpose behind the Texas Firewalkers Firefighters and Civilian Combat Challenge was held at Austin Parks and Pizza. The event was scheduled to start at 8 a.m., but rain delayed the competition for nearly three hours.

"We honor the 343 firefighters who passed away on 9/11. We vowed back in the day to never forget so since then we've had a lot of tragedies of illnesses and deaths from guys that were there," said Blake Henson, a firefighter and a member of Texas Firewalkers.

Texas Firewalkers is a non-profit organization that helps families displaced by home fires. The group also helps with first responder line of duty deaths.
